Mochi Bharat Embroidery

Mochi Bharat is a form of embroidery practiced by Mochi or cobbler caste of Gujrat. The sample shown here is of a peacock motif embroidered on black satin cloth. Drawing was done with chalk. Work is chain stitch filling using silk thread. 

Kasuti embroidery of Karnataka

Karnataka state is in south of India. Kasuti is a very fine form of embroidery worked on woven fabrics there.



Chikankari embroidery of Uttar Pradesh

In the Uttar Pradesh state of the country cotton thread embroidery is done on translucent fabrics. It is also called shadow work or Lakhnavi embroidery.


Manipur Embroidery

In the North eastern state of Manipur satin stitch is used to work embroidery on traditional wear garments.


Namda chain stitch embroidery of Kashmir

Namda floor coverings made in Kashmir are embroidered with thick chain stitch using wool yarn.


Female forms in Chamba embroidery

Chamba embroidery belongs to the state of Himachal Pradesh of India. Long and short satin stitches are worked on fine cotton fabrics.



Kantha embroidery

Kantha embroidery is the ethnic embroidery of West Bengal state of India. Running stitch is the main stitch used in the embroidery. Cotton threads and cotton fabrics are used traditionally. Kanthas are Indian quilts made by hand sewing and embroidery.
